Letter drawing

WHO IS THIS MODULE DESIGNED FOR?
Verticals, horizontals, curves and diagonals: we all need those lines when drawing letterforms. This module opens its doors to anyone wishing to learn more about the drawn construction of letters and how to give them an appropriate visual expression.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Writing is drawing and drawing is writing. Both disciplines are necessary to make you a complete letterdesigner. We show you how to make line variations, and what surface and volumes are all about. We cover the areas of sketching and precise typographic drawings, giving your eyes time to get sharper and see more details. We will talk about the relationship between letters and guide you through the pitfalls along the way. The more formal exercises will be alternated with freer assignments. You will be offered the opportunity to do typographic research at Ghent University Library

WHAT IS THE EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOME?
Learning how to draw is so important when you want to become a letterdesigner. Through repetition and persistence you will understand the shapes you draw so much better and you will discover how they slowly reveal their secrets to you. This knowledge will also help you when you are struggling with a digital drawing. We will explain why and help you push your boundaries. This way, you will get a grounded and solid knowledge you can use in your future designs.

WHAT WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR MORE THAN 1 MODULE?
Not only will you gain more knowledge and experience, but we offer a financial advantage as well (prices valid for 2022-2023):
When signing up for 2 modules, you pay 3600,00 euros (1800,00 euros/module).
